For this design, my main goal was to make the pull quotes and block quotes stand out from the rest of the text. I wanted a lot of contrast between the body text and the pull quotes. This is why they are long, and take up a larger portion of the page. This helps break up the text and draw more attention to the pages.

As for my colour choices, after a bit of trial and error, I landed on red for my accent colour. I think it adds a nice pop of colour to these layouts. I used red to emphasis certain words and sections of each essay. It draws attention especially to the block quotes, letting the reader know that they, although obviously in the text, are different.

Overall my layouts have subtle nods to the text through the colour and simplicity of the designs, but also show my style of design through the more modern sans serif typefaces and simple layouts.
